AI Art Collection in the Styles of Surrealism and Abstract Painting — Including Award-Winning and Selected Works from Open CompetitionsThis is an art book of AI-generated works created using Stable Diffusion, a generative AI, by providing short prompts of one to three words — such as the names of painters and photographers. The resulting images go beyond the styles of those artists, reflecting influences from a wide variety of sources. Beginning about a year before publication, the printed works were submitted to more than ten open-call art exhibitions in Japan. The majority of them were accepted, and four received awards. In one of these exhibitions, the artist was also recommended for associate membership.Since these works are conceived as co-creations with AI, the author uses the art unit name Kanabstracd—a coined term that represents a collaborative creator—as the artist’s name. This second full-color volume contains 164 of the 324 pieces in total, including two award-winning works, several selected works, and other representative pieces. The remaining works are featured in Volume 1.In creating these works, I provided the AI with terms such as the coined word “Kanabstracd,” as well as names of painters like Cézanne and Seurat, and concepts such as surrealism, using my original method called the Idea-Steering AI Art Practice (ISAP) to produce a wide variety of artworks. ISAP is a unique creative approach that makes effective use of the “negative prompt” feature in Stable Diffusion, enabling the AI to generate images freely through its own “ideas” while learning from painters’ works available on the web and drawing on its broader internal knowledge. Each artwork is accompanied by commentary generated by GPT-5 or GPT-4o (ChatGPT). These analyses identify relationships between our AI-generated works and the styles of many renaissance, modern, and contemporary artists, including Dalí, Kandinsky, Klee, Miró, Picasso, and Yayoi Kusama.Contents1. After completing his graduate studies in engineering at the University of Tokyo, Kanada spent 35 years at Hitachi, Ltd. conducting research and development in software and artificial intelligence. He later founded Dasyn.com, where he manufactures and sells 3D-designed lamps—including transparent lampshades and bulbs—created with his own original 3D printing technology, available through online stores such as Rakuten. With the rise of generative AI, he has been creating AI art using Stable Diffusion and developing websites introducing AI art and the composer Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach with the help of ChatGPT.
